Rachel & Brett

Rachel is a longtime friend of mine, and to make the day even more meaningful, she was actually a guest at my own wedding ten years ago. Being trusted to document such an important day in her life was an absolute honour, and it made every moment behind the camera that much more memorable.
The day began at the iconic Hotel Saskatchewan, where Rachel spent the morning getting ready surrounded by the people who mean the most to her. Her closest friends, her niece, and Brett's daughter (who officially became Rachel's stepdaughter that day) all shared in the excitement. It was such a fun morning filled with laughter, happy tears, and plenty of anticipation.
Once everyone was ready, we all piled onto the party bus and headed north of Balgonie to Rachel's parents' family farm. They had transformed the property into a beautiful wedding venue, and it was obvious how much love and hard work had gone into preparing it. Rachel's dad especially had put countless hours into making the grounds look incredible, creating the perfect backdrop for both the ceremony and portraits.
It was one of those classic Saskatchewan summer day. Beautiful sunshine, blue skies, and temperatures that definitely reminded us we were in the middle of summer. Thankfully, guests were welcomed with an outdoor bar where they could grab a cold drink while visiting before the ceremony.
The ceremony itself was heartfelt, intimate, and absolutely adorable. After Rachel and Brett said "I do," everyone stayed outside to celebrate together, enjoying drinks and conversation while cocktail hour got underway. It created such a relaxed atmosphere where no one felt rushed, and everyone could simply soak in the excitement of the day.
We stayed on the farm for family and wedding party portraits, taking advantage of all the gorgeous locations around the property. The breeze was certainly appreciated in the heat, although Rachel's beautiful long veil had other plans! After battling the wind for a while, she decided to ditch the veil and embrace the rest of the afternoon without it—which honestly suited the relaxed vibe of the day perfectly.
The summer heat eventually won, and we wrapped up portraits a little earlier than planned before heading to the Balgonie Hall, where everyone could cool off. Guests gathered around the bar, visited with friends and family, and enjoyed an incredible charcuterie spread while waiting for the reception festivities to begin.
With around 20 tables full of family and friends, the reception was full of energy right from the grand entrance. One of my favourite traditions of the evening? Guests had to take a shot to earn a kiss from the newlyweds! Everyone happily joined in....even Grandma! When the Fireball eventually ran out, the sambuca came out instead, and the celebrations kept rolling.
Dinner was absolutely delicious, followed by heartfelt speeches that perfectly balanced sweet memories with plenty of laughter. The dance floor stayed busy as everyone celebrated Rachel and Brett well into the evening.
Just before I wrapped up for the night, the three of us snuck away for one last adventure. The sunset was too beautiful to pass up, and we captured a few quiet moments together away from the crowd. Those sunset portraits were the perfect way to end an already incredible day.
Rachel and Brett's wedding was full of genuine joy, meaningful family moments, and so much laughter. Being there as both a photographer and a longtime friend made it a day I'll never forget.
Rachel and Brett, thank you for trusting me to capture such an important chapter in your story. Congratulations to your beautiful family, and here's to a lifetime of happiness together.
