Ya'll know I love a fall wedding!! The crisp autumn air, the beautiful light, and the opportunity to gather your favourite people together make for a memorable day. On October 2, Alissa and Alex celebrated their wedding in Regina, surrounded by family, friends, plenty of happy tears, and a few video game-inspired jokes along the way!

These two are such a fun-loving couple, and their wedding day was a perfect reflection of their personalities. From an intimate backyard first look and ceremony to a lively celebration at the Atlas Hotel, their day was filled with love, laughter, and the people who mean the most to them.

The morning began at Alissa’s grandmother’s house, where I joined Alissa and the ladies for the getting-ready portion of the day. She was surrounded by her two bridesmaids, her two sisters, her mom, her grandma, and her baby nephew. Having so many special people gathered in one place made the morning feel especially meaningful.

One of the memorable details was Alissa’s wedding dress, which featured plenty of buttons! Getting everything fastened took some time, with her mom carefully working her way through the buttons using a crochet hook. It was a sweet little moment that perfectly captured the care and love surrounding Alissa as she got ready to marry her person.

Alissa also made a stylish choice with her footwear, opting for a pair of very cool white sneakers instead of traditional high heels. With mobility sometimes presenting a few extra challenges for her, the sneakers were a practical choice that still felt completely true to her style. And honestly, they looked fantastic!

Meanwhile, Sherry headed over to Alex’s family home to photograph the guys getting ready. Alex was joined by his family, his two groomsmen, and the couple’s dog, who naturally deserved a place in the wedding-day memories, too.

Alissa and Alex had planned a private first look in the backyard of their home, giving them a chance to see one another before the rest of the day unfolded.

Just before we were ready to begin, Alissa unfortunately twisted her ankle in a small divot in the backyard. We took a pause to make sure she was feeling okay before moving forward. Through it all, Alissa maintained her wonderful attitude and sense of humour. She has such a great way of handling unexpected moments, and it was a lovely reminder that wedding days don't have to go perfectly according to plan to be absolutely wonderful.

When the moment finally arrived, Alex’s reaction to seeing his beautiful bride was incredibly emotional. There were happy tears, big feelings, and a whole lot of love. It was one of those moments that makes photographing weddings so special: getting to witness a couple take everything in and simply be together.

After their first look, Alissa and Alex gathered with their closest loved ones for a private backyard ceremony. This first ceremony took care of the legal side of getting married while allowing them to share the moment in a more intimate setting with the people closest to them.

We also took advantage of the beautiful backyard for some portraits before heading out to continue the celebrations.

On our way to the Atlas Hotel in Regina’s south end, we made a quick stop for a few more portraits of just Alissa and Alex. These little opportunities to step away from the busyness of the day and spend a few minutes together can be so valuable. They give couples a chance to breathe, enjoy each other’s company, and create photographs that feel a little more personal.

Once we arrived at the Atlas Hotel, it was time to bring everyone together for the second ceremony.

While their first ceremony had been intimate and focused on the legalities, this celebration included more of their family and friends who hadn't been present earlier in the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to share their commitment with a larger group of loved ones, and Alex’s sister had the special honour of pronouncing them married.

Of course, because this was Alissa and Alex, the ceremony came with plenty of personality! Their love of gaming made its way into the jokes and puns woven throughout the celebration. The references were a fun nod to something they share as a couple, making the ceremony feel uniquely theirs.

I always love seeing couples incorporate their favourite hobbies, shared interests, and little inside jokes into their wedding day. Those personal touches are what make each celebration different, and Alissa and Alex's gamer-inspired humour was a perfect reflection of their relationship.

Following the ceremony, there was time for Alissa and Alex to have photographs taken with their guests before everyone settled in for the reception.

The couple kicked off the reception with their first dance immediately following their grand entrance, which meant all eyes were already on them! It was a lovely way to transition from the ceremony into the evening's festivities and give everyone a chance to celebrate the newlyweds.

Dinner was provided by the Atlas Hotel, and the meal was delicious. And, of course, the dessert spread was just as impressive as always! There is something wonderful about a wedding reception where everyone can relax, enjoy a great meal, and spend time catching up with the people around them.

The evening continued with a collection of lovely speeches, heartfelt words, and plenty of opportunities to celebrate Alissa and Alex. After the speeches, the dance floor beckoned once again, and the festivities carried on.

From the emotional moments earlier in the day to the laughter and gaming references woven throughout the celebrations, the reception was a wonderful reflection of two people who know how to have fun together.

Alissa and Alex’s wedding was such a joy to be part of. Their day included meaningful family moments, an emotional first look, two ceremonies that each served a special purpose, personal touches that reflected their shared interests, and a reception filled with love and laughter.

One of my favourite things about wedding photography is getting to know couples through the way they choose to celebrate. Some weddings are quiet and traditional, others are full of big, energetic moments, and many are a little bit of everything. Alissa and Alex's day was a beautiful combination of heartfelt emotion and playful personality.

Even when the unexpected happened, Alissa approached it with humour and grace, and the love between these two was evident throughout the day. Their celebration was a reminder that the most memorable weddings aren't about everything going perfectly. They're about being surrounded by the people you love, embracing the moments as they come, and celebrating a relationship that feels completely your own.

Sherry and I had such a wonderful time photographing Alissa and Alex’s wedding. Thank you both for letting us be part of such a special day and for sharing your laughter, your love, and your unique personalities with us.

Congratulations, Alissa and Alex! Here's to a lifetime of adventures, plenty of laughter, and a happily ever after that only gets better with every level. 💜
