A Handmade Wedding Full of Heart
Some weddings are elegant. Some are timeless. And then there are weddings like Molly and Skylar's. Completely, unapologetically them. Every detail of their day reflected who they are as a couple: creative, thoughtful, incredibly talented, and surrounded by people who love them deeply.
The morning began with everyone getting ready in separate locations. Molly spent the morning at the apartment she shares with Skylar, surrounded by her mom, closest friends, and her nieces. There was such a relaxed, joyful atmosphere as everyone helped one another prepare for the day ahead. Meanwhile, Skylar got ready with his family and friends at the hotel. My second photographer, Sask RC, joined the gentlemen while I spent the morning documenting all the excitement with the ladies.
Even before the day officially began, Molly's creativity was woven into every part of the wedding. She had spent countless hours crocheting Skylar's tie, every boutonnière, and all of the bouquets by hand. These weren't just beautiful wedding details—they were pieces of art, lovingly made by the bride herself and a perfect reflection of the care she poured into every aspect of their celebration.
Once everyone was ready, we headed to Government House for one of my favourite parts of the day … a private first look. Away from the guests and the excitement, Molly and Skylar were able to see one another for the first time and simply soak in the moment together. She didnt walk to her man, she ran! It was emotional, genuine, and the perfect way to begin the rest of the day.
Afterward, we made the most of the beautiful grounds with family portraits and wedding party photos before heading inside Government House. Since Molly worked there as a cast member, it was such a meaningful location to incorporate into their wedding story. The historic interiors made for stunning portraits and added another personal touch to a day already filled with significance.
From there, everyone travelled out to Emerald Park to Skylar's parents' home, where a beautiful backyard ceremony awaited. Despite the scorching summer heat, friends and family gathered together beneath the open sky to witness Molly and Skylar exchange vows. Instead of traditional vows, they each read heartfelt, personal promises they had written for one another, making the ceremony incredibly intimate and emotional. One of the most unforgettable moments came during that portion of the ceremony. Molly surprised Skylar with a gift she had secretly worked on for seven months—a beautifully hand-knit sweater made especially for him. It was such a perfect reflection of her love, patience, and creativity, and there wasn't a dry eye in sight.
With the formalities complete, everyone was ready to cool off, so we made a fun stop at Dessarts on 13th Avenue for ice cream before heading to the evening reception. It was the perfect treat on such a hot day and made for some wonderfully candid moments.
The celebration continued at the German Club, where Molly and Skylar made their grand entrance and went straight into their beautifully choreographed first dance. It was the perfect way to kick off an evening filled with laughter, great food, and so many personal touches.
Rather than dismissing tables in the traditional way, guests competed in a trivia game to determine who would head to dinner first. Dinner featured a delicious German feast complete with schnitzel and apple strudel, perfectly fitting the warm, family-centred atmosphere of the evening.
Everywhere you looked, there was evidence of the love and care that had gone into creating the day. Molly's mom had sewn colourful bunting, handcrafted details filled the room, knitted pieces added warmth and personality, and whimsical toy giraffes made delightful appearances throughout the décor. Yellow and orange accents brought everything together into a celebration that felt joyful, vibrant, and completely unique. It was impossible not to notice how much of the wedding had been lovingly made by hand, making every detail feel deeply personal.
The speeches throughout the evening were heartfelt and emotional, including a touching tribute honouring several important people in Molly's life who have recently passed away. It was a beautiful reminder that weddings are not only about celebrating love but also about remembering the people who helped shape us.
To end the evening in true Molly and Skylar fashion, they skipped the traditional cake cutting and instead sliced into a delicious apple strudel using a large ceremonial sword. A finale that perfectly captured their playful personalities and their willingness to do things their own way.
Molly and Skylar's wedding wasn't about following trends or checking boxes. It was about creating a day that reflected their story, their talents, their families, and the life they are building together. From crocheted bouquets, boutonnières, and a handmade tie to a hand-knit sweater, handmade décor, heartfelt vows, and meaningful traditions, every moment was intentionally crafted with love. It was an absolute honour to document such an authentic celebration. Molly and Skylar, thank you for trusting me to capture your incredible day. Your wedding was a beautiful reminder that the most memorable celebrations are the ones that stay true to who you are.
