Isabelle & Carmen | A Beautiful September Wedding in Gravelbourg & Assiniboia, Saskatchewan

There’s something so special about a September wedding in Saskatchewan. The golden light, the changing seasons, and the feeling that summer is slowly giving way to fall make for such a beautiful backdrop to a wedding day. Isabelle and Carmen’s wedding was filled with sweet moments, happy tears, laughter, meaningful promises, and plenty of celebrating with the people they love most.
Our day began with two separate drives across Saskatchewan. I made my way from Regina to Gravelbourg, while Sherry headed from Weyburn to Assiniboia to spend the morning with the guys. Two photographers, two getting-ready locations, and one beautiful day ahead!
I arrived at Isabelle’s parents’ home while she was getting ready for her big day. There was already a wonderful buzz of excitement in the air, with those final preparations underway and everyone looking forward to what was to come.
Of course, no wedding morning would be complete without a champagne pop! 🥂 There were plenty of smiles and excitement as Isabelle got ready to step into her wedding dress. Her dress featured lots of beautiful buttons, which meant Mom had quite the task ahead of her! She patiently worked her way through them, making sure every little detail was just right. She also helped Isabelle with her earrings and shoes, adding those extra-special touches to a morning full of love.
Once Isabelle was ready, we headed out to the front porch to capture a particularily meaningful moment: her first look with her dad. Waiting for him at the front of the house, Isabelle shared a sweet moment with her dad that was full of emotion and the kind of love that makes wedding days so memorable.
Afterward, it was time to head to a private bridge, where Isabelle and Carmen would see each other for the first time that day. Izzy and I hopped in my Vanborghini and hit the dusty road
While Isabelle was getting ready at home, Sherry was at a hotel in Assiniboia capturing Carmen and the guys as they prepared for the wedding.
Carmen had plenty of support surrounding him, with both his mom and dad helping him get ready and his groomsmen there to keep the energy high. There was no shortage of encouragement, laughter, and cheers — quite literally, as the guys raised their drinks to celebrate the day ahead!
Those moments with family and friends are always worth capturing. Between the final details, the jokes, and the excitement building in the room, it was clear that Carmen had a wonderful crew beside him.
Before long, it was time for Carmen and Sherry to make their way to the bridge for the big first look.
The private first look was one of the sweetest moments of the day. Isabelle and Carmen had the chance to see each other away from the crowd, take a breath, and enjoy a few moments together before the ceremony and celebrations began.
The weather certainly kept us on our toes! It was incredibly windy and sunny, and the elements weren't exactly making our jobs easy. But sometimes wedding days have a way of reminding us that perfection isn't about having ideal weather. It's about the people, the emotions, and the memories being made.
Despite the wind and bright sunshine, we captured so many beautiful moments as Isabelle and Carmen saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. Their private first look gave them a little space to connect and soak it all in before the busy afternoon unfolded. Izzy also gifted Carmen with a lovely new watch!
We spent some extra time taking portraits on and around the bridge, making the most of the location before heading back to Gravelbourg for more wedding photos.
Back in Gravelbourg, we met up in front of the church to photograph Isabelle and Carmen with their wedding party. We then moved around behind the church for more portraits, capturing the whole group together before spending some quieter moments with just the two of them.
There's something so fun about wedding party photos. They're a chance to bring everyone together, celebrate the occasion, and let a little personality shine through. Between the group photos and the couple's portraits, we made the most of the time we had before the ceremony was about to begin.
We also captured family photos in front of the church, bringing everyone together for those important photographs that will be treasured for years to come.
And what a beautiful church it was!
The church in Gravelbourg was truly stunning. For such a small town, it was an incredible space, with painted ceilings and beautiful cathedral-style details that made the chapel feel both grand and intimate at the same time.
It was the perfect setting for Isabelle and Carmen to exchange their vows.
Their ceremony was sweet and heartfelt, made even more meaningful by the promises they had each personally written for one another. Hearing couples share words they've prepared themselves is always so special. These aren't just traditional vows repeated from memory; they're personal reflections of their relationship, their commitment, and the future they're choosing to build together.
Isabelle and Carmen's ceremony was a beautiful reminder that, at the heart of every wedding, it's the promises made between two people that matter most.
Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone for a few group photos on the church steps. Then, before heading off to the reception, the newlyweds stayed behind with us for a little extra time inside the church.
With the beautiful architecture surrounding them, we were able to capture a few more portraits of the two of them in this special space. A quiet pause after the excitement of the ceremony and before the evening celebrations began.
After leaving Gravelbourg, we made our way back to Assiniboia for the reception at the local community centre. The formalities of the day were behind us, and it was time to celebrate!
The reception was filled with a wonderful mix of laughter, heartfelt words, and delicious food. The speeches were both funny and meaningful, giving everyone plenty of reasons to laugh, smile, and maybe get a little emotional, too.
Of course, the food and dessert were delicious, and the evening continued with sweet first dances that gave Isabelle and Carmen another chance to share a special moment together amid all the excitement.
These are some of my favourite parts of a wedding day. After all the planning, preparation, and anticipation, everyone finally gets to relax, enjoy the company of loved ones, and celebrate the newlyweds.
As the evening carried on, the dance floor was just beginning to come alive. The energy was building, the party was starting to kick off, and everyone was ready to keep celebrating!
My time with Isabelle and Carmen came to an end just as the reception was getting into full swing. With a little over two hours of driving back to Regina ahead of me, it had certainly been a long day! But it was also such a good one!!
From the champagne pops and the help from Mom with all those dress buttons, to the emotional first look with Dad, the windy bridge portraits, the beautiful chapel ceremony, and the laughter shared during the reception, Isabelle and Carmen's wedding day was full of moments worth remembering.
Wedding days don't always come with perfect weather or a perfectly predictable timeline. Sometimes it's the wind, the sunshine, the little unexpected moments, speeches that run a little long and the people who surround you that make the story uniquely yours.
Isabelle and Carmen, thank you for letting us be part of such a meaningful day. It was a joy to capture the beginning of this next chapter in your lives, and I hope these photographs bring you right back to all the love, laughter, and happiness you shared on your beautiful September wedding day.
Congratulations, Isabelle and Carmen! Here's to a lifetime of love, adventure, laughter, and always choosing each other. 💜
